Going further, faster

from JO’s sermon tonight:

we’re living in a day where God is speeding things up. what should have taken you a lifetime to accomplish, because you honor God, He’s going to do it in a fraction of the time.  in your career, maybe it should take you 20 years to work your way up to that position, build your business up, no, things have shifted, God’s going to give you breaks that you didn’t deserve, bring the right people across your path, you’re going to see opportunity like you’ve never seen before, it’s going to take you further, faster.  get those 2 words down in your spirit.  it may look like in the natural it’s going to take you years to get outta debt, get well, overcome that problem;  no, you need to get ready, you’ve come into this shift.  think of it like a car;  when you shift from 2nd gear up to 4th gear, the engine is still running at the same speed, it’s not working any harder, but you’re going faster, covering more ground.  the higher gears have greater capacity, they’re designed to go faster.  in the same way, because you’ve kept God first place, He’s shifting you to a higher gear;  you’re going to go further, faster, not because you’re working harder, trying to make it all happen, no, you’re putting forth the same effort, bein’ your best every day, but all of a sudden you get a good break that thrusts you years down the road.  you get a promotion that you weren’t qualified for, you’re going to look up and think, “how did I get here?  should have taken me another 20 years, but here I am.”  “medical report said it’d take me 5 years to recover, but I did it in 6 months.”  what is that?  God taking you further, faster.

part of the shift is acceleration;  it’s not going to take as long to accomplish your goals as you think.  it’s not going to take as long to get out of that problem as it looks.  almighty God, the creator of the universe, is breathing in your direction;  He’s going to cause things to fall into place.  the right people are going to be drawn to you, good breaks, opportunity, healing, restoration, favor, it’s not going to be business as usual, you’ve come into a shift, it’s going to be business as unusual.  you may think it’s going to take you 30 years to get outta debt, pay your house off, you’ve already run the #s, calculated it all, no, you don’t know what God is up to, you don’t know what God already destined to come across your path.  one phone call, contract, good break, inheritance, and you’re totally debt-free.  you’re into overflow.  get ready, God is saying, “it’s going to happen sooner than you think, I am shifting things in your favor, you’re going to come into acceleration.”  what should have taken you a lifetime to accomplish, He’s going to do in a split second of time.  don’t talk yourself out of it;  “I don’t have the seniority, I got all this debt, I’ve gone as far as I can,” no, be a believer and not a doubter;  you may not see a way, but God still has a way.  our attitude should be,  “God, I’m in agreement with You, I believe You have shifted things in my favor, You are takin’ me further, faster. I will accomplish my dreams sooner than I think.  I will overcome these problems quicker than I thought.”  when you do that, Almighty God will open doors that no man can shut. He’ll connect you to the right people, His favor will thrust you years down the road.

God has already lined up the right people for you;  they are already in your future, it’s just a matter of time before they show up.  they will open doors that you could not open, they will show you favor even though you didn’t ask.  they will use their influence to make you look good, they’re ordained by God to accelerate His plan for your life, you don’t have to go try to find the right people;  you just honor God, and the right people will find you, they’ll pick you out of a crowd, knock on your door, for some reason they will want to be good to you.  that’s a divine connection;  God will cause them to use their expertise, even their funds, to take you further, faster.  you’ll accomplish more in less time, you’ll be promoted beyond your education, increase beyond your experience, the right people will help you go where you could not go on your own.  you don’t need everyone to help you, you just need one person God ordained, and you will accomplish in a split second what could’ve taken you your whole lifetime. “I don’t know if this will happen for me, I never get any good breaks,” it’s not going to happen with that attitude, you cannot  think thoughts of defeat and lack all day and expect to have abundance, you can’t talk mediocrity and expect to have victory, you are prophesying your future.  if you want to see this shift occur in your own life, you’ve gotta get in agreement, and say, “yes, God, this is for me.  I believe you’ve lined up the right people, I know they’re already in my future, I just wanna thank You that I’ll accomplish my dreams sooner than I think,”  in the natural, it may not look like it, but we serve a supernatural God;  He’s about to release floods of His favor, healing, good breaks.  take the limits off of God, don’t think of all the reasons this is not going to work, God wouldn’t have given you the dream unless He already had a way to bring it to pass;  if you will stay in faith, it will not only happen sooner than you think, it’ll be bigger than you imagined.  that’s the way our God is;  He likes to do exceedingly abundantly above and beyond.

the chinese bamboo;  for the first 4 years, it barely grows above ground, you hardly see anything happening, it looks like you’re wasting your time, but what you can’t see is under the ground it’s developing a massive root system, the roots are spreading out in every possible direction.  in the 5th year, once the roots are properly established, the plant will shoot up to as high as 80 feet;  from 0 to 80′ all in one year.  many of you have been faithful, given, served, helped others, sown a lot of seeds, but you haven’t seen a lot of progress;  yes, God’s been good to you, you’re grateful, but nothing really out of the ordinary.  that was the equivalent of your 4 years of developing roots;  you were proving to God that you would be faithful, do the right thing when it was hard. get ready, God is sayin’, “you’re coming into your 5th year, you’re going to see explosive growth that will take you to levels beyond your income, training, experience.”  in this 5th year, good breaks will find you, the right people will search you out, opportunity will come knocking on your door.  the 5th year is harvest and favor time;  you’re going to reap from all the seeds that you’ve sown down through the years. nothing you’ve ever given has gone unnoticed.  every sacrifice you’ve made, every time you stopped to help someone, God sees that.

the scripture talks about how God will reward us in this life (NB:  I couldn’t find it, but it’s probably there in some form), not just the sweet by-and-by. because you’ve been faithful, there is a harvest stored up, God is about to release everything that belongs to you.  it’s going to happen sooner than you think, bigger than you imagined, God is going to bring out gifts and talents you didn’t even know you had.  He’s gonna open up new doors of opportunity.  this 5th year is when God is going to shoot you up higher than you ever even dreamed of.  Ruth experienced this 5th year;  she would go into the fields every morning and gather the leftover wheat, that’s how she and her mother-in-law Naomi were living.  Ruth could have gone back to her hometown, but she didn’t want to leave Naomi by herself;  she sowed these seeds of kindness and generosity.  Boaz, who owned the fields, noticed Ruth; he told his workers to leave handfuls of wheat for her.  he ended up falling in love with her, they got married, and instead of Ruth having to work in the field she owned the field.  God took her further, faster.  this story shows us the heart of God;  Ruth was satisfied living off of leftovers, but God wasn’t satisfied;  that was fine for a season, a time of testing and proving for Ruth, but God did not want that to be permanent, God didn’t want her to spend the rest of her life working in the field, God wanted her to own that field.

God’s dream for your life is much bigger than your own.  don’t get satisfied just having your needs supplied;  yes, be grateful, but God has so much more in store.  He wants you to come into overflow, abundance, to where you can be a greater blessing wherever you go.  you may be working for that company, but God knows how to shift things to where you own your own company.  you may be workin’ behind the scenes like I was for 17 years, but then you come into your 5th year, and you see explosive growth, and God takes you places that you’ve never even dreamed of.  make room for God to do something big in this new year, go out every day with this expectancy, “God is working in my life right now.  Lord, I just wanna thank you for explosive blessings, divine connections, unprecedented favor.”  Nehemiah had a dream to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.  in the natural, it was impossible;  he was living 1000 miles away, working as a cup-bearer for the king.  he didn’t have the $, position, resources.  on paper, he didn’t have a chance, but he knew that God’s favor was on him.  he asked this king for permission to take a leave of absence to go and rebuild that wall.  notice his boldness.  he wasn’t a senior advisor in the administration, he was working in the kitchen.  he could have thought, “who am I?  I could never do something big.  I don’t have the influence, $, I don’t know the right people.”  his attitude was:

Nehemiah 2:8 (NIV)

And may I have a letter to Asaph, keeper of the royal park, so he will give me timber to make beams for the gates of the citadel by the temple and for the city wall and for the residence I will occupy?” And because the gracious hand of my God was on me, the king granted my requests.

he was saying, “it may not look like it in the natural, but I have a secret weapon that you cannot see;  the favor of God is on my life.”  Nehemiah started rebuilding the wall;  he had all kinds of opposition. city leaders wouldn’t give him a permit, critics tried to stop him, he had to fight off bandits.  he just kept being his best, doing what God had called him to do.  that should have taken him years, but he rebuilt that wall in just 52 days.  what was that?  God taking him further, faster.  God had it all lined up, gave him favor with the king, arranged the right people, resources, protection.  it should have taken years, that wall had been down for a long time, shoulda taken him his whole lifetime, but with God’s help he did it in 52 days.  your dream may seem too big, “I’ve waited too long, missed too many opportunities, I don’t have the resources, connections,” no, God has it all figured out;  because you’ve honored Him, God is sayin’, “I’m bringing you into your 5th year.  I’m gonna connect you to the right people, give you breaks that you didn’t deserve, open doors that you weren’t qualified for, give you wisdom beyond your years.”  God is going to accelerate His plan for your life.  you could be goin’ along, normal pace, been that way for years, but now, you’ve hit this shift;  get ready for acceleration, new doors to open, the right people to show up at your doorstep.  have this attitude of expectancy;  further, faster.  there will always be opposition to you moving forward;  don’t be discouraged, that’s a sign that God has shifted things.

the enemy doesn’t want you to move forward.  as long as you’re complacent, stay where you are, that’s no problem, but when you start taking new ground, when you start praying God-sized prayers, when you know God has shifted things in your favor, don’t be surprised if you have opposition.  all that means is you are close to your victory, to seeing explosive blessings.  because you’ve been faithful, problems you’ve struggled with for years are going to suddenly resolve, unexpectedly turn around.  God is going to cause things to fall into place, the right people are going to show up;  you need to get ready for acceleration.  God has shifted you into a higher gear.  He’s enlarging your capacity.  you’re going to accomplish more in less time, go further putting forth the same amount of effort.  you’ve come into your 5th year, God is accelerating His plan for your life.  it’s not going to take a lifetime for you to accomplish your dreams, it’s going to happen in a fraction of the time.  it’s not gonna take you 30 years to get outta debt, supernatural increase is coming your way.  it’s not gonna take years to overcome that addiction, break that bad habit, get healthy again, it’s gonna happen sooner than you think.  do your part, stay in agreement with God, get up every mornin’, say, “Lord, I wanna thank You that You’re taking me further, faster.”   and then, go out each day with that expectancy, that “God is at work in my life right now.”  if you do this, you’re gonna see divine connections, the right people come across your path, instead of working in the field, you’re gonna end up owning the field.  God’s gonna do exceedingly, abundantly, above and beyond, further, faster, give the Lord a shout of praise!!

On 8-12-12, I said:

“Since my hits to this blog have literally been HALF as much this past week as in the previous weeks, I asked Him to bring me 100 people a day”

For that entire week, I ended up with 109 hits, slightly over half of the previous week’s 202, so 100 hits a DAY was…  ridiculous.  Except, I’ve gotten 608 hits for the past week (this was the 1st time I broke 600, and is part of  overall upwards trend);  I was either slightly under or slightly OVER 100 hits per day FOUR times (2 each)!!  My entire first YEAR of this blog I only got 128 hits, and I may soon get that many hits every DAY…  and if that’s not proof of God’s existence I don’t know what is.

But back to the point:  I prayed for something that at the time seemed ridiculously big, and 6 months later I’ve got it.  JO is right;  God meets us at the level of our faith, and He wants us to pray BIG.

So what do I ask for now?  My first thought was for 200 hits per day, but with the steady upwards trend…  I remember being overwhelmed when I broke 1000 hits in a month for the first time in November, and this month I’m poised to break *2000*…  and heck, 100 hits a day would give *3000* hits per month…  so I’ve asked for *500* hits per day.  This is well beyond what *I* can cause, so it counts as a bold prayer, a God-sized prayer, in the area of blogging;  don’t be surprised if you see another post about an answered prayer in the not too distant future.

And what does God want me to DO with such a grand blog when I get there?  Something more than report on what various preachers have said, certainly;  whatever He wants me to say, He’ll make it clear at that time.

And an unrelated side note:  Last night, as I was about to go to bed, I felt…  it felt like a hand touching me between the shoulder blades, not the entire hand but the grouped fingers we normally touch another person with to make a point or get their attention.  It was a pretty firm touch, and it startled me as you might imagine.  I felt no sense of there being a presence (ghostly, angelic etc), and was tired enough to not think to address God and see if He was involved;  that’s very unfortunate.  My roommate, about to go to sleep himself, touched my back less than a minute later (below the shoulder area), and that short-circuited the previous touch in my sleepy mind and kept me from wondering about it…  until now.

I just checked my Feedjit log, and while I’ve been working on this I got my 1st-ever hit to “An odd spiritual comment from my roommate” from 2-4, which is about the story where Jesus touched a leper and made him clean, that I told to my roommate, and then:

“My roommate walked over, touched the back of my hand, and said, “Now I don’t have to take a shower.””

It’s probably a stretch, but the touching things sort of feel related.  In any case, I’ve long since learned to record anything even slightly unusual, as often meaningful patterns begin to form;  time will tell what this might mean.

Edit 8-3-15:  It took a couple of years, but for the past 2 months I’ve been averaging over 500 hits per day, and getting an increasing # in the 600’s and 700’s, and have even broken 800 a few times.  God is amazing!!

On the Daily Audio Bible today, one of the call-in messages highly recommended someone I’d never heard of;  I barely registered it.  A few hours later, I watched a JP sermon, and was looking for something else to watch…  and there was her name on a show that was about to start!!  I hadn’t even gotten from what I’d heard on the DAB that she was a minister, but she is, and apparently VERY successful, too, and I can see why now that I’ve heard her.

Moments after I put her show on, I was checking to see where this blog was in the results for the search term “waiting for god’s timing,” and the FIRST result was from HER site!!

It’s an essay called “When God’s Timing Is Taking Too Long.”  I checked it out… and as I was looking at it, on the TV she started talking about Abraham and Sarah and how they wrongly did the impregnate the handmaiden thing because they didn’t want to wait for God because He was taking too long for them, and how you have to WAIT for Him to do it His way!!!!!!

It’s too late for me to read her whole long essay, but for whatever reason I scanned down to the bottom, at which she has Habakkuk 2:3, which I reported about in “A non-coincidence about God’s set time” on 2-1;  it’s not such a shocker that that verse

Habakkuk 2:3 (AMP)

For the vision is yet for an appointed time and it hastens to the end [fulfillment]; it will not deceive or disappoint. Though it tarry, wait [earnestly] for it, because it will surely come; it will not be behindhand on its appointed day.

would appear in an essay on that topic, far from it, but it’s the ONLY thing I picked up from that essay…  and it’s the cherry on the top of the astonishing set of “coincidences” that dropped on my head like the proverbial ton of bricks about this woman.

Let’s call her by her initials, JM…  and yes, I got  chill realizing that I had another “J” to go with JO and JP.

I’m so grateful that God has brought me another minister to learn from!!  And of course for the not remotely subtle message about waiting on His timing…  which verifies that I have something to wait FOR.

Edit:  Right before I posted this, a hit came in to…  “Trusting God’s Timing.”  God is HERE, making sure I’m confident that His plan is proceeding as it should, to my ultimate, optimum benefit.

Praying God-sized prayers

from JO’s sermon tonight:

how you pray will determine what kind of life you live. if you only pray small, ordinary, get-by prayers, most likely you’ll live a small, ordinary, get-by life. but when you have a boldness to ask God for big things, you ask Him to open doors that would normally not open, you ask Him to take you further than anyone in your family, when you pray God-sized prayers, you will see the greatness of God’s power.  all through the scripture we see this principle:  Elisha prayed that it wouldn’t rain;  for 3.5 years there was no rain.  Joshua prayed for more daylight;  God stopped the sun.  one prophet prayed for protection;  the enemy standing right in front of him didn’t recognize him, God made him invisible.  the common denominator is they asked for the unthinkable. when was the last time you asked God to do something impossible, out of the ordinary?  one reason we don’t see God do great things is we only ask for small things.  most people pray for protection, wisdom, that’s all good, but it’s limiting what God can do.  there should be something you’re praying about, asking for, that seems far out, you can’t accomplish it in your own strength. dare to ask.

your dreams may look impossible, you don’t have the funding, connections;  God is saying, “I dare you ask Me to bring it to pass, to show you a flood of My favor.”  a lot of times we pray, “God, my child’s off course, if You’ll just turn him around,” and that’s good, but that’s an ordinary prayer.  ordinary prayers get ordinary results;  God meets us at the level of our faith;  if you ask small, you’re going to receive small. a God-sized prayer is, “God, I’m askin’ You to not only turn my child around, but use him in a great way, let him make a difference with his life.” an ordinary prayer is, “God, help me to get by this month, pay my rent,” there’s nothin’ wrong with that;  a God-sized prayer is, “God, I’m asking You to increase me in such a way that I can not only pay my house off but help pay somebody else’s house off.”  how many of your prayers are not being answered simply because you’re not asking?  “Well, God’s God, if He wants to bless me He’ll bless me,” no:

James 4:2 (KJV)

Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

if you’re not asking big, you’re short-changing yourself.  you will never reach the fullness of your potential if you only pray small prayers. I’m not talkin’ about just making a wish list and prayin’ every whim, I’m talkin’ about asking God for what He’s already promised you:

Deuteronomy 15:6 (ESV)

… you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow, and you shall rule over many nations, but they shall not rule over you.

Deuteronomy 28:12 (ESV)

12 … And you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.

Psalm 91:16 (NIV)

16 With long life I will satisfy him
    and show him my salvation

Joshua 24:15 (ESV)

15 … But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord

there are hundreds of promises that you have every right to pray and ask God to bring to pass.  plus, there are specific dreams, desires that God’s placed in your heart;  they didn’t just randomly show up, the Creator of the universe put them in you, they are a part of your divine destiny.  in Psalms it talks about:

Psalm 37:4 (AMP)

Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart.

the hidden dreams that you haven’t told anybody about;  one way you know they’re from God is they’re so big you cannot accomplish them on your own.  God does this on purpose so that it will take faith.  faith is what pleases God, allows Him to do the impossible.  so God will put somethin’ big, where you don’t have all the talent, education, connections, confidence.  God will even allow certain  obstacles that we can’t overcome on our own;  we can either think, “too bad, didn’t work out for me, I don’t have the connections, couldn’t get the financing, the medical report doesn’t look good,” we can talk ourselves out of it, or we can say, “God, I can’t do this in my own strength, but I know You are all-powerful, there’s no limit to You, so God I’m asking You to make a way even though I don’t see a way”  God gave David the promise that one of his descendants would always be on the throne, he would have this lasting dynasty;  he could have said, “God, I’m just a shepherd boy, I was out tending my father’s sheep, I don’t have formal training, education, experience,” no, David understood this principle, even though it looked far out, he didn’t dismiss it.  he said:

1 Chronicles 17:23 (NLT)

23 “And now, O Lord, I am your servant; do as you have promised concerning me and my family. May it be a promise that will last forever.

imagine the nerve David had to ask for something so big

1 Chronicles 17:25 (NLT)

25 “O my God, I have been bold enough to pray to you because you have revealed to your servant that you will build a house for him—a dynasty of kings!

in other words, “God, I’m asking you to do something amazing, not because I have all the talent, education, connections, but because You have promised it.”  what God has promised you, the dream He has placed in your heart, may look impossible, but if you’ll just dare say, “God, You promised it, now I’m bold enough to ask You for it.”  when you do, don’t be surprised if thoughts come saying, “it’s never gonna happen, you don’t have the talent, you come from the wrong family, you made too many mistakes.”  the enemy gets stirred up when you start asking God for big things;  he’ll leave you alone as long as you pray small, ordinary prayers, but when you start praying God-sized prayers, you start asking God to take you where you’ve never been before, that’s when those thoughts will bombard your mind, saying, “who do you think you are?”  just smile and tell them;  a child of the most high God.  radical faith gets radical results.  when you pray God-sized prayers, God’ll show up in a big way;  He’ll give you the desires of your heart.  are there dreams that you’ve talked yourself out of, problems you’re convinced you’ll never overcome?  why don’t you take the limits off of God?  what if the only reason it’s not happening is because you’re not asking?  Jesus said:

Luke 12:32 (KJV)

32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

God wants to give you the desires of your heart, but you have to have the faith of a little child and be willing to ask.  it gives Him pleasure to give you the kingdom;  it brings a smile to His face.  if my children never asked, acted like they were bothering me, they were intimidated, that would make me feel badly;  I’d say, “come on, step up to the plate, I’m your father, I want to be good to you.”  some of you today need to step up to the plate;  quit asking small, acting like you’re bothering God, praying weak, barely get by prayers.  your Father owns it all.  He created the whole universe, and if you’re gonna see the fullness of what He has in store, you gotta learn to ask big.  I’m not going to let my lack of asking keep me from reaching my highest potential.

Psalm 31:19 (NLT)

19 Your goodness is so great! You have stored up great blessings for those who honor you. You have done so much for those who come to you for protection, blessing them before the watching world.

because you honor God, there are blessings that have your name on them stored up;  houses, businesses, books, movies, children, ideas, they have your name on them, God wants to release them, He’s just waiting for you to ask.  will you have a boldness to ask for things that even seem impossible?  it’s good to ask for our needs, but I’m encouraging you today, ask for your dreams, goals, the secret petitions of your heart.  when you know how to pray these God-sized prayers, your children, relatives don’t have a chance;  God will move heaven and Earth to bring that promise to pass.  you may have somebody in your life that you’re about to write off;  they’re makin’ bad decisions, looks like they’ll never straighten up, keep praying, keep asking God, not only to bring them back, but to do something great with their life.  when somebody is living radically the wrong kind of life, and God touches them, they will live radically the right kind of life;  God will use them to do amazing things.  we have the promise, as for me and my house we will serve the Lord

Psalm 112:2 (DARBY)

His seed shall be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright shall be blessed.

not addicted, defeated, mediocre, no, mighty, powerful, history makers.  don’t pray small prayers over your children;  it doesn’t matter what they are or aren’t doing right now, pray bold prayers:  “God, I’m asking that my child be mighty in the land, let them be history-makers, leave a legacy of faith that will be seen for generations to come.”  dare to ask big.  You have not because you ask not.  God is saying, “ask Me for big things, I created the universe, don’t ask Me for a $2 raise, to just keep your children out of trouble, to just help you make it through life, ask Me to turn drug addicts around, for children who will become history makers, to part Red Seas, to bring water out of a rock, to show you floods of My favor.  I dare you to ask, to stretch your faith, take the limits off of Me, pray God-sized prayers.”  when you face situations in your everyday life that seem impossible, God says, “I dare you to pray, ask Me for that car to start.”  you think, “oh, God’s got bigger things to deal with,” let me tell you, you are God’s biggest deal, you are the apple of His eye.

too often, we limit God, we have a small view of who He is, we think God is up there somewhere far away, running the universe, “I can’t bother Him with this small problem, I can only pray if I have some kind of major catastrophe.”  God knows the # of hairs on your head, He knows your words before you speak them, you are not inconveniencing God by asking Him to help you in your everyday life.  God wants to be good to you, to show you His favor in a new way.  He’s saying today, “I dare you to ask.”  when you pray God-sized prayers, God will show up in a big way.  some of you are not seeing God do great things because you’re only asking for small things.  God is saying, “ask Me to open doors that seem impossible, to give you the secret petitions of your heart.”  you’ve gotta have this boldness like David, and say, “God, you promised it, I see it in the scripture, now I’m gonna be bold enough to ask.”  there are blessings stored up for you right now, with your name on them;  if you’ll learn how to pray God-sized prayers, you will see your children become mighty in the land, the right people will show up at the right time, God will give you the desires of your heart.  you will see the fullness of what God has in store, overcoming every obstacle, defeating every enemy, and becoming everything God’s created you to be.

I needed something to watch for half an hour while I was exercising (2-8-13), and with nothing else available I decided to try a religious program I had never seen before.  Neither of the 2 very young-looking people who came on had the name from the show title;  they turned out, I discovered via research later, to be the grandson and granddaughter-in-law of that man…  I have no idea why they and not he and his wife did this episode.  Their gentle but intense love of, and gratitude to, God, appealed to me greatly.  I think the man choked up a little a couple of times, and the woman teared up more obviously…  not from telling tragic stories, but from love of God.  They weren’t brilliant speakers like JO and JP, but their depth of feeling is every bit as valid.

What was their topic, these people I’d never heard of on a show I’d never seen before?  One that is the most powerful message to me from JP, which JO has also recently adopted;  REST.  Entering and staying in God’s rest.  This was very powerful to me, both in general, and because in the past day I’ve thought several times about this rest, and how to get it.

I looked up the woman’s name, and found her website.  I found:

“I also remembered the story of King Jehoshaphat. He began to seek the Lord for help when he found out that the people of Moab, Ammon, and thousands of others were coming to attack him and his people.”

I’d never heard of this story before TODAY, when I read of it for the 1st time in one of my daily Bible study emails.  Could she have gotten the same email and this influenced her to think of it?  The date of the post is September 23, 2011, so no.  This is a staggering coincidence…  but there’s more.

There’s only one post more recent than this one on her site…  on what would have been my mother’s b-day.

On the show, she told a sweet, and somewhat long, story about dancing with her son to an unexpected kind of music;  harp music.  When I looked up the Psalm she’d quoted the line from in her post, I found this:

Psalm 149:3 (NIV)

Let them praise his name with dancing
and make music to him with timbrel and harp.

Dancing AND a harp?!!  REALLY?

So…  what is all this pointing to?  My vote is on the woman, or perhaps her joint ministry with her husband.  I suppose it could also be the actual couple whose show that was.  It could even be the concept of REST.  I’ll watch some more episodes of the show, read more of her stuff, check out their ministry…  and I’m guessing I’ll be getting more from her/them soon.

I’m watching a movie as I’m editing this, and the man just asked the woman what her daughter’s name is…  and she replied with the name of THIS woman.  So, it IS her. God has made sure I understood His meaning;  I’ll be focusing in on her and her message.

PS  During the time I was writing this, I got my first hit for the day  (2-9-13), with the search term:  “god works in your favor, its not coincidence.”

The post it led to was “God’s destiny for your life will come to pass.”  Above my result was one for a JO essay called “God Will Give You a Sign,” which said in part:

“The scripture talks about how God will confirm His Word with signs following… when God puts a promise in your heart, He will confirm that promise by showing you some kind of sign that the promise is going to come to pass, something to boost your faith and encourage you…  God did for my father and wants to do the same for you if you’ll be sensitive to notice. It may be something small. It may be through a dream, another person, nature, His Word, or even something that seems like a coincidence. It looks insignificant to others; but to you, it’s God saying, “I’m in control. I’m directing your steps.” A friend might make one comment. They don’t even realize it, but it’s exactly what you needed to hear. Something lights up on the inside. That’s a sign from God. You know God is in control. You know He is fighting your battles. That’s a sign from God.

It’s important that we recognize these signs. That’s what is going to help keep us encouraged while we’re waiting for the promise to come to pass. When we’re tempted to get down, we can go back and say, “No. I’ve got this sign. God confirmed it through a phrase that was spoken to me, through a dream that I had, through His Word when this passage of scripture jumped out to me.” See, God controls the whole universe. He controls nature. He controls animals. If you will be sensitive, you will see the hand of God at work even in the small things…  learn to be sensitive to what God is doing. There is no such thing as a coincidence, no such thing as a lucky break. That’s the hand of God at work in your life.”

Mark 16:20 (KJV)

20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following.

Edit:  less than 24 hours after I posted the above (early AM 2-10-13),  a Bible study email came, and one of the passages in it was a different Psalm with a harp reference:

Psalm 33:2 (ESV)

Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre;
make melody to him with the harp of ten strings!

Probably a coincidence…  but worth adding just in case.

Later on 2-10:  I got THREE hits via the search term “signs that let you know that god’s blessings are on the way,” AND a hit from “signs that let you know that gods blessings ae on the way,” for a total of 4, which all led to “The God who closes doors.”  NOT a coincidence.  I expect explosive blessings any time now.

2-11:  Got another hit with that exact same term (the spelled-right version).

*** 10,000 HITS ***

As you might have guessed from the title, I passed the 10K hit milestone today.  Not bad for a blog that…  here, just look at the stats:

I have never done anything to promote this blog, I don’t even comment on other blogs, and until a few months ago I had PageRank 0…  and still don’t know how I got to be PR 1 with no LINKS, or more to the point how I ever got past a hit or 2 per week like I had in 2010.

Except of course I DO know.  God has chosen to do…  I don’t know what…  to Google to make them put me at or near the top of a whole slew of searches, hence the hits.  As JP says in today’s newsletter:

John 15:5 (NKJV)

“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

(JP attributes this line to God, when in fact Jesus said it, but the concept is the same either way.)

God wants people to come here and see…  well, JO’s sermons, certainly, but He wouldn’t go to all this trouble just to add a statistically insignificant amount of extra exposure to JO’s worldwide ministry…  all I can imagine is that something I’m going to say will inspire people. A major victory against enormous odds would accomplish that;  I’m waiting for those explosive blessings to come any day now.

I was watching a wonderful JP DVD that I’d ordered from his site, and he referred to this story:

Matthew 8:1-3 (NIV)

Jesus Heals a Man With Leprosy

8 When Jesus came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him. A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”

Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!”Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy.

I described to my roommate how JP had explained that the law about lepers was that they had to stay away from people and shout “Unclean!!” if they were near them, because the belief was that if a leper touched a healthy person they would get leprosy from them and thus be unclean too, BUT, that when Jesus touched the leper the latter was made clean.  In those days, under law, being unclean, and by somewhat broad conceptual extension sinful, was contagious, but under grace, being clean, and by a similar extension righteous, is contagious (and thus grace is better than law, and we should act according to grace and not according to law).

My roommate walked over, touched the back of my hand, and said, “Now I don’t have to take a shower.”  It took a moment for me to realize that he was alluding to that story, indicating that *I* was at a high “level” of clean.  He’s a degenerate heathen, though, so maybe he just meant “very dirt-free,” rather than also suggesting “righteous”;  there’s no real way to question him without him wondering why I’m asking if he meant that I really had such righteousness in the sense of a religion he doesn’t know I’m a part of, so I don’t know…  but it’s not like I’m some poor obsessive compulsive washing 20 times a day, so….?

Maybe he just did a random thing without any real thought;  it wouldn’t be the first time.  In any case, because of the spiritual background I figured I’d include it here;  you never know what will end up being part of a pattern later.
