The right perspective

(1:02 AM)

From JO’s sermon tonight:

Instead of complaining about what’s wrong, change your perspective and focus instead on the things in your life that are good;  you’ll feel completely different about your life once you focus on the blessings rather than the negatives.

If we complain about where we are we’ll never get where we want to be.  If you complain you’ll remain, but if you praise you’ll be raised.

When you meditate on the goodness of God it releases your faith, which activates God’s power.

If you’re constantly meditating on God’s goodness, what He’s done, and how He’s blessed you, you’ll see His favor in amazing ways.

Psalm 34:1

I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.

Ezekiel 36:26-27

This was on my Bible widget today;  I don’t think this one’s a message to me, but it’s certainly about me on every level, especially the “put my Spirit in you” part.  I needed some sort of printout to cover the beginnings of a vision board that I have taped to the back of my bedroom door, so I’ve printed it out;  it’s useful, but that’s as far as I’ll go.  In any case, here it is:

Ezekiel 36:26-27 (NIV)

26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.

I’d had a credit with an online store for nearly a year;  it had been part of a promotion they’d had, and I’d never found anything to get with it (and mind you, these guys send an email every day with new products).  Then, 2 days ago they sent me another chunk of credit, leaving me with an odd total amount, and told me that it would all expire at the end of the month…  so it was time to get whatever I could so as not to lose it all.  Today, as soon as the new day’s stuff appeared for tomorrow I was in there looking… and I saw something I actually liked, a type of item I’d wanted and been looking for for a while but never found anything suitable.  The price?  EXACTLY the odd amount of my credits.  Coincidence?  Not a chance.

(1:41 AM)

From JO’s sermon today:

Don’t wait to praise God until AFTER you get what you want and everything is fixed.  You have to give God praise and THEN the breakthroughs will come;  praise precedes the victory, and negative thoughts limit what God can do.

Prayer should NOT be a complaining session.  God is not moved by our problems He’s moved by our faith.  Praise is faith at work.  Scripture says that the spirit of faith is in our words.

When you praise, God can take what was meant for your harm and use it to advance you.  Praise activates God’s power.  Nothing gets God’s attention more than when you should be discouraged but you have a song of praise for Him.  To live in victory, you need to know how to praise while in pain…  that’s the sacrifice of praise.

In the tough times, turn up your praise.  When you praise, chains are broken, doors are opened, angels go to work, victory is coming your way.  Shake off the self-pity, the complacency, turn up the praise, you can praise your way to victory. Psalm 149 says when we have high praises of God coming out of our mouths, God will go to war against our enemies.  High praises means to praise God with enthusiasm, be excited about what He’s done.  The shout of praise activates God’s power.  Praise is the birth position;  when you’re thankful, and praise God to others, you’re putting yourself in position to give birth to that promise.  Promises die stillborn because people get negative and complaining.  Elijah said;  if you want to see rain, you have to dig the ditches first.  Thank God and praise Him, and His favor will come.  Get up every morning and thank God that he’s bringing your dreams to pass.  Praise is an attitude, so be grateful all day long;  this allows God to do amazing things.  Your praise can change God’s mind, cause Him to do more to help you.  When you praise, dreams come to pass, supernatural doors open.

Last night I had what looked at first like a classic back-in-school dream.  Typically, I was trying to figure out what my schedule was, and had headed to the registrar to try to get answers.  And here’s where it started getting different.  It seemed that some new classes had been added to my previous ones;  they were somehow better, or maybe easier, or more desirable, and I wanted to know if I could just get rid of the original classes;  I was wondering, in a garbled dream fashion, if I had enough credits, if any of the prior courses were actually required…  could I just switch to the new ones?  (New classes = “God’s classes,” ie living the way He wants me to with His guidance, I assume.)

If I ever found out, I don’t remember, but the point I think is that this sort of dream has always seemed to be about figuring out what I should be doing in real life, both present and future.  And now the REALLY new, REALLY big thing:  I had some kind of worksheets that represented homework, I believe from these new classes.  I felt like I didn’t know what the answers would be, although I don’t recall if I ever actually read the questions.  And then…  the answers started appearing!!  Simultaneously on all the questions, or at least many of them, were streams of words being formed as if invisible hands were writing with invisible pens.  I watched as the blank spaces filled up.  I then realized that what I thought were pre-made worksheets in fact had the questions written in MY handwriting, and the answers were in totally different handwriting…  GOD’S handwriting, bold and frankly masculine looking (is this because I’m accustomed to thinking of God as male, or because He in fact has a masculine bent?).   As about 2/3 of the space filled up, I found myself saying to stop, because the handwriting wasn’t mine and they’d know I hadn’t done the work…  and the writing stopped.  Sadly, it never occurred to me to read what He had written, and I’m not sure if I was really thinking that it WAS God’s doing during the dream, but awake the message is clear;  He is writing my future, but will let me do the work myself too…  and really, He expects me to, as He wouldn’t stop writing just because I asked if He didn’t WANT me to do some of the work for myself in addition to the humbling amount He does for me.  And;  even if I don’t know the questions, don’t know what’s happening or about to happen, it’s ok because HE has all the answers.  He is in control…  and my triumph is thus assured.

(4:48 PM)

I have some work problems going on currently, and last night I finally heard from one of these jokers, who was trying hard to brush me off;  I sent a strongly worded email back demanding to be compensated and have my status restored with no more delays.  Although it didn’t look good, I had faith that God would work this out for me as He has so many other times.  This morning, the following was on my Bible quote widget:

Romans 15:13 (NIV)

13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

This is certainly a time when I’m having to have a high amount of trust and hope…  and when I went to my inbox, I found, not another in the previous series of brush-off emails, but one claiming that they’d finally look into the issue.  Now, a quote like this is pretty general, which means it’s easy to make it apply to many things, I’m well aware of that, but these quotes have been applicable to my life enough times that when there’s one in the gray area like this one I still lean towards giving God the credit.

Edit 11-10:  SUCCESS!!  With no further contact from them, suddenly their assignments are appearing in my inbox and my account on their site works again.  These companies are notorious for never letting you back into their pool once they’ve decided you somehow mysteriously violated their terms…  but the power of God supersedes their power to screw the little guy.
